Childhood Obesity and Genetics
A study found that the sons of obese fathers and the daughters of obese mothers are six and 10 times as likely, respectively, as those of leaner dads and moms to be obese themselves. But these tendencies didn’t cross the gender divide: Sons of obese moms and daughters of obese dads were no more likely than those of trim parents to be
very heavy. Researchers say the findings suggest that environment is more responsible than genetics for childhood obesity.
