You may want to wash down that bran muffin with a glass of milk. A study found that when people with type 2 diabetes doubled their fiber intake, they began to absorb less calcium. Fiber can help lower cholesterol and control blood glucose, but calcium is important for bone health. Researchers suggest that when embarking on a fiber-filled diet, you should also make sure to boost your calcium intake, either by eating more calcium-rich foods like low-fat yogurt or by taking a supplement.
