Asked and Answered
if you're living with diabetes, you've probably got a lot of questions. This is certainly true if you were recently diagnosed, but I find it's still the case years later. New situations arise, cutting-edge science is published, and there is always something more to learn.
One of the things I value most about Diabetes Forecast is how hard our writers and editors work to find the answers to those questions. Exhibit A, of course, is "Ask the Experts," our long-running monthly feature in which readers submit questions to be answered by health care professionals. But the answering of important questions is not limited to "Experts." This month, our columnists investigate the following: "Is it possible to prevent type 2 diabetes?", "Do I need to stretch before working out?", and "What's the deal with those omega-3s, anyway?". Personally, I'd been wondering whether flax seed was worth the bother, but having read Associate Editor Tracey Neithercott's omega-3s column, I'll be picking some up on my next run to the market.
The major studies of tight blood glucose control that came out last year raised plenty of questions, too. This month's "Early and Often" feature tackles many of them; researchers are still looking for the rest of the answers. We'll let you know when we hear more.
Finally, there are the answers we get from readers themselves—like the two suggestions we're publishing in this issue's Mail Call for the reader who wrote wistfully of missing "sweet tea" in a previous issue. As a person with diabetes, you are an expert, too. Which is why we'd love to hear more from you. You can contact us via our Web site, forecast.diabetes.org, or e-mail me directly at forecasteditor@diabetes.org. And for any question about diabetes, the American Diabetes Association's free National Call Center is always open, at 1-800-DIABETES (1-800-342-2383).
The questions (and the means of asking them) may be new, but our commitment to answering them hasn't changed.

How do your loved ones best support your diabetes managment?
My sister Nicole and her husband Ryan just raised $2000.00 dollars for the Tour De cure race in Phoenix Az. Along with all of our supporters! The entire race raised just under $300,000.00!!!! My sister made T-shirts after my name, Kattie. And yes I have two T's in my name. So her T-shirts and Team name were TEAM TWO T's!!! She informed me that I was her inspiration! I never knew.....I have had diabetes for 22 years. I just had my anniversary date. It has changed my life in soooooooo many ways as it has for all of us! Having my sister do this race in HONOR of me, has opened up my eyes even further to take care of myself and manage my disease even better. She is my inspiration!!
