Insulin Syringe Recall

All Nipro GlucoPro insulin syringes with expiration dates before Nov. 1, 2011, are being recalled immediately, the company and the Food and Drug Administration announced.

The reason for the voluntary nationwide recall, which includes Puerto Rico, is that these syringes may have needles that can detach. This may result in the needle becoming stuck in the insulin vial, getting pushed back into the syringe, or remaining under the surface of the skin after injection.

The recall does not include the GlucoPro syringe that is used only with the Nipro Amigo insulin pump. Refunds are available at the place of purchase. People with questions about the recall may contact the syringes' maker, Nipro Medical Corp., at (305) 599-7174, ext. 249.
