Donna B., Frisco, Texas

You have to make decisions every time you put something in your mouth. I miss sweet iced tea!
Cherri D., Houston, Texas

The wait time between when I treat a severe hypoglycemic reaction and when the juice starts to work. I fear that I will continue to drop, so sometimes I overtreat.
Donna K., Arlington, Texas

Most of my friends don’t eat breakfast, and when traveling with them, I seem to hold up our schedule by having to leave time for breakfast, meds, etc.
Marge K., Annandale, Va.

Frances M., Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.

Daily blood sugar testing. I test 6 or more times a day, and I wish there was an easier way to monitor blood sugar.
Lucy G., N. Reading, Mass.

There’s never a vacation from diabetes. I can take time off from work and household responsibilities, but I always have to be cognizant of what I eat, when I eat it, when to take my medication, and have to be able to test my blood sugar no matter where I am or what I am doing.
Maryann R., Bangor, Maine

Everything.
Robin C., Ocala, Fla.

When people find out I’m diabetic they say, “I’m sorry.” I tell then not to be sorry because they had nothing to do with it. Then I tell them that I’m just thankful because there are a lot of worse things that I could have to deal with.
Tony R., Massillon, Ohio

The aspect of living with type 2 diabetes that irritates me the most is the constancy of management. There is no vacation without probable negative consequences.
Nancy S., Santa Rosa, Calif.

Simple...The constant monitoring of my glucose level and the depression that goes with it, especially when I'm doing everything right!!
HuZhou M., Winston Salem, N.C.

That no matter how well I do keeping my A1C at normal levels, keeping my cholesterol at normal levels, exercising, eating right etc.,I will always have diabetes.

What do you hate most about diabetes?

That I do not feel comfortable at social gatherings with food that is high calorie. I feel different and do not enjoy the gatherings.

what I hate about diabetes

No matter how much I exercise and watch what I eat, I find it very difficult to lose weight, and my family not really understanding that I just can't eat everything that they like to eat.

Donna L. Milwaukee, WI

I have Type 2 Diabetes

There are lots of things I hate about having type 2 diabetes.
but being type 2 diabetes helps give me the motivation to become healthier - that is what I try to think most about. but yes I still feel back about not being able to have more cake - :) so I don’t have it.
If anyone ever needs motivation to exercise or just to see how strong someone that does exercise can become.. check out my web called tomsdiabeticdiary.com
I plan on getting becoming healthy enough to low my meds as much as possible. Feel free to watch on my diary.

I don't really hate having diabetes....

But we do have a unique situation at our house with my husband being gluten intolerant. Most of the substitutes for wheat and the rest are high carb...so the trick is balanceing what I can have and still have control of my sugar while keeping him on track. It is a challenge but most of the time I manage to keep things under control. I don't love having diabetes, but it does force you to think healtier choices for things.

That diabetes is forever,

That diabetes is forever, there is no vacation from being aware and
striving to monitor blood glucose values to the best of one's ability.

I hate feeling guilty for

I hate feeling guilty for having to take time off work for doctors appointments. Endocrinologists, Ophthalmologists, personal doctors, etc.... it gets very overwhelming, and they all want to see you all the time to do tests, and call back and make me come in for more tests, repeat tests, it's overwhelming.
